Join us for Salve's innaugural First Generation Celebration Day! Learn what it means to be a first-generation college student at Salve, network and build community!

8:30am-10am - Breakfast with First-Generation Faculty, Student, Staff & supporters

Join us to kick of First-Generation Celebration Day with a welcoming breakfast in Papitto Pavillion. First-generation students can connect with first-generation faculty, staff and advocates. Enjoy breakfast, build meaningful connections and expand your network of supporters on campus.

11am - 12-pm - First-Generation Oral History Project (and by appointment)

What does it feel like to be a first-generation college student at Salve? How does it feel to be a faculty or staff member who was the first in their family to go to college? What has your journey looked like? What are your hopes for your future? your journey look like? What are challenges have you encountered?

Salve Librarians will conduct oral history interviews with first-generation students, faculty and staff in Papitto Pavillion to capture the important reflections and experiences that make our community so rich. Interviews from this project will be recorded and saved to the archives.

1pm-2pm - Mercy Tea Celebrating Purposeful Education

Join Salve colleagues and students for this special Mercy Tea in Papitto Pavillion Featuring first-generation faculty and staff storytellers to reflect on the impact of purpose-driven mercy education as part of First-Generation Celebration Day!

3pm-4pm “Finances and a Full Life” with Brock Walsh

Everyone panics about money. We promise you can learn how to earn, manage, and invest money in a presentation free from judgement and shame. Topics will range from financial aid, getting the most out of school, starting your career & adult life, to growing financially strong into the future.

4pm-5pm - Tri-Alpha – First-Generation Honor Society Induction

Join Salve’s new chapter of Tri-Alpha, a first-generation honor society founded in 2018, as we recognize academic excellence among first-generation college students and foster connections across institutions. Eligible students must have earned at least 30 credit hours and maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Tri-Alpha is open to graduate and undergraduate students as well as faculty and staff. Faculty and staff are eligible for membership if they were first-generation college students when they earned their bachelor’s degree.
