COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Coventry Animal Control said the rescued German Shepherd (Hanz) was adopted Friday after he was seized on Dec. 19, 2025 from a home where he was kept without food or water.  WJAR

CULTURE NEWS

  • CaptainCon, the annual tabletop gaming convention, will run Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. The three-day event features tournaments, contests, raffles & a new live Dungeons & Dragons comedy show and aims to raise funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.  WJAR
  • Warner Bros announced that The Great Beyond (filmed under the title Ghostwriter) will show on Imax screens on Nov. 13. Glenn Powell filmed in Providence last summer for the J.J. Abrams movie, which was also shot in London and Scotland.  The Providence Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rhode Island Energy’s seasonal rate hike and colder-than-normal weather drove up bills in November and December - customers will get a $32 electric credit per month starting in January while refunds for gas overcharges have already begun.  The Providence Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority announced lane closures on Mount Hope Bridge starting Tuesday, Jan. 20 through April; alternate lanes will close 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays as work dehumidifies the bridge to prevent corrosion + motorists should expect delays.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Providence Journal announced the 2025 All-State Football Second Teams yesterday, listing top high school players on offense, defense and special teams from local schools. The list spotlights talent across the region — a sign of promising football futures.  The Providence Journal
  • Friday evening, high school basketball games offered thrilling comebacks, highlighted by West Warwick’s 61-58 win over the Mariners. Wins by Westerly and South Kingstown and other schools showed strong local talent — a showcase of resilience on the court.  The Providence Journal
