EDUCATION NEWS

  • Warwick voters are asked to approve an additional $50M borrowing during a special election today to finish constructing Toll Gate and Pilgrim high school buildings that began in 2025. Officials say if voters reject the bond, the projects will be scaled back, likely starting with athletic fields.  The Providence Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Freezing conditions have turned much of Narragansett Bay to ice, leaving fishermen at Apponaug Cove working to free their boats. Meteorologists note the bay’s partial freeze, rare since 2015, has halted work while boat owners manage equipment risks — local jobs face brief delays due to nature’s grip.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TSA required passengers at T.F. Green without a REAL ID or passport to pay a $45 fee since Feb. 1; travelers may pay online via TSA ConfirmID (which grants 10-day clearance) but might still be denied boarding.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over the weekend and Monday, local high school basketball yielded tight finishes—St. Raphael clinched a 47 to 45 win thanks to Zerek Johnson’s free throws and Juanita Sanchez’s Cavaliers rallied to win 74 to 66—while other divisions delivered strong defense and excitement.  The Providence Journal
  • RIIL basketball rankings list top teams from Divisions I, II & III as playoffs approach. Analyst Eric Rueb’s power rankings highlight key matchups, including Lincoln facing Hendricken today & more games scheduled this week.  The Providence Journal
  • Readers can vote for five high school nominees for the Week 7 Longplex Boys Basketball Player of the Week as the interactive award campaign continues. Votes will be accepted until Friday night and the winner will be announced next week.  The Providence Journal
  • Sports writers Bill Koch and Jake Rousseau of The Providence Journal are in the Bay Area this week to cover Super Bowl LX as the Patriots aim for a record 12th title in the game set for Feb. 8. They will provide daily updates leading up to the contest.  The Providence Journal
