  • United Way's 211 program offers free + confidential, 24/7 support for healthcare, childcare and legal aid to Rhode Islanders with live assistance and online chat. It has grown to include a mobile RV and now saves the state over $1 million, connecting callers in more than 100 languages.  The Providence Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Jan. 29, the Warwick Police Department held a promotion and awards ceremony in City Council chambers — drawing police from across the state and their families. State officials recognized several officers for outstanding service.  Warwick Online
  • Local voters rejected an extra $50M for new high schools on Tuesday after rising cost concerns were raised. School Committee Chair Shaun Galligan and Mayor Frank Picozzi reviewed the vote totals at the Board of Canvassers.  Warwick Online

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Valentine’s and Galentine’s events bring local fun from a tea party at Mapleville Farm on Feb. 15 to a cruise in Wickford and a burlesque show in Lincoln on Feb. 14 plus creative dinners and workshops across the region. SPORTS NEWS

  • Fourth graders from the local PAL youth basketball program in Warwick are thrilled to see the Patriots return to the Super Bowl today— they recall past games with high hopes and cheer on quarterback Drake Maye.  The Providence Journal
  • URI women's basketball won their 14th consecutive game yesterday at the Ryan Center with a 69–61 win over St. Joseph’s, breaking the school record — Brooklyn Gray led with 21 points as the team improved to 20–2 and stayed 11–0 in Atlantic 10 play.  The Providence Journal
  • Bryant University students covered Super Bowl LX from San Francisco as they broadcast+podcast back to their campus in Smithfield. Led by Professor Christian Fauria, the group worked from Radio Row near Levi's Stadium to gain hands-on sports media experience.  WJAR
