- ➤ The Planning Board approved preliminary plans for two new developments last week. A Washville Car Wash is proposed at the former Walgreens on West Shore Road at Wilde’s Corner & a veterinary hospital would replace the Ye Olde Boulevard Tavern at Greenwich & Luther Avenues in Apponaug. - ➤ Roger Williams Park Zoo said yesterday that its 19-year-old tree kangaroo, Morobe, was humanely euthanized after his health rapidly declined from age-related conditions. He had been part of a breeding program to help protect the critically endangered species. The Providence Journal
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A WalletHub survey released Feb. 12 showed that Rhode Island ranked 39th among 50 states with families spending 1.74% of their income on groceries. Food prices are expected to rise by 3.0% this year, which may further stretch local budgets. The Providence Journal

- ➤ Two teams from Warwick Area Career & Technical Center’s Baking and Culinary Arts program won gold medals at a statewide competition last week and qualified for the national contest this spring — showcasing local student talent. Warwick Online

- ➤ The City Council approved a $75,465 bid for design services to rebuild the long-closed pier in Apponaug Cove, next to Ponaug Marina on Hallworth Drive, last week. The project will restore a key local landmark. Warwick Online

- ➤ URI coach Tammi Reiss was named to the Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year watch list on Wednesday. The Rams posted a 23-2 record and a 17-game winning streak when they tipped off at La Salle. The Providence Journal
