  • A winter storm has disrupted travel with nearly every flight delayed or canceled at T.F. Green Airport and local transit services suspended for Monday. RIPTA, GATRA, SRTA, and the Block Island Ferry have canceled or modified service, so passengers should verify schedules with their carriers + plan accordingly.  WJAR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Photos and reader memories revisit the Blizzard of '78, a storm that once brought 67 mph winds and heavy snow to the area. Local reporters recall being stranded in Providence and share their firsthand recollections as the conversation around severe weather reignites.  The Providence Journal
  • Anne Crawford 'Nancy' Allen, recognized as Warwick's first female fire chief, started her volunteer fire department on her family's estate in the 1930s. Cedar Hill is now open as Clouds Hill Victorian House Museum for public tours.  The Providence Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A major snowstorm is affecting Providence today as forecasts predict up to 35 inches of snow, with a blizzard warning in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Residents are urged to stay off roads as conditions worsen.  The Providence Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Dan McKee activated emergency winter shelters statewide after a snowstorm is expected to drop more than 20 inches; the West Warwick Civic Center, open Feb. 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., ensures no one in need is turned away & offers a safe haven.  The Providence Journal

  • The Providence Friars beat DePaul 71-68 on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Chicago as Jaylin Sellers scored 21 points and Stefan Vaaks added 14 with a key 3-pointer to avoid a third loss. They will host Xavier at home next.  The Providence Journal
