COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The New England Saltwater Fishing Show runs Friday through Sunday at the Rhode Island Convention Center; over 300 exhibitors offer gear, seminars, and interactive booths, with tickets at $15, children 11 and younger free, plus free Family Day admission for women.  The Providence Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wendy’s announced plans in November 2025 to close 300–600 outlets nationwide during the first half of 2026 as part of a downsizing effort to boost profitability — local outlets have not yet been confirmed for closure.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Four St. Patrick's Day parades are scheduled in Rhode Island this March. Pawtucket's parade will start at noon on March 7, Newport's at 11 a.m. on March 14, West Warwick's at 1 p.m. on March 15, & Providence's at noon on March 21.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tuesday's high school basketball playoffs saw La Salle, Portsmouth, Burrillville, Davies and Lincoln School win their games. Wednesday's schedule features boys Division III at Exeter-West Greenwich vs. Times2 Academy at 7 p.m. and girls Division III at Prout vs. Pilgrim at 6 p.m.  The Providence Journal
  • URI basketball coach Tammi Reiss was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year on March 3 after guiding the Rams to a share of their second conference regular-season title; her contract now runs through 2034-35, and the team is set to open tournament play Friday.  The Providence Journal
  • Monday's high school basketball playoff games produced wins for local teams — EWG beat Central Falls and Pilgrim defeated Cranston East. Pilgrim will meet Prout on Wednesday in the Division III semifinal while other high school fixtures are set for Tuesday.  The Providence Journal
