  • Local stargazers will see a rare planet pairing when Venus and Saturn align on March 8, around 6:11 p.m. Residents should look near the western horizon shortly after sunset to catch the celestial display.  The Providence Journal
  • Hot Moms Club Rhode Island invites all mothers to join free community events including kickboxing, yoga, and coffee meetups. The group, started by three local moms, offers a safe space for new and expecting moms (updates are posted on social media).  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill introduced by Thomas Noret in West Warwick will require grocery stores to honor digital coupons for shoppers who do not use store apps so that seniors and those with disabilities get equal discounts. Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos and local groups support the measure while some business groups object.  The Providence Journal
  • Attorney General Peter Neronha (term-limited) endorsed Helena Foulkes for governor on Thursday, Mar. 5, citing their long-standing friendship and his belief in her leadership while confirming he has not discussed any post-election role with her.  The Providence Journal

  • Lincoln School girls basketball team secured its second straight championship today by defeating Tiverton 50-47 in a game decided by a dramatic comeback and a decisive shot from Alivia Harris.   • Kim English, who replaced Ed Cooley in March 2023, is reportedly set to conclude his tenure at Providence as his team plays one final regular-season game tomorrow at Georgetown at 8 p.m. and then competes in the Big East Tournament—set to begin Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.  The Providence Journal
