CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Two famous Civil War cannons, the Gettysburg Gun (with a cannonball fused in its muzzle) and the Bull Run Gun gifted to Governor Sprague, are now housed at Varnum Armory Museum during State House renovations. They will return in August to keep Rhode Island’s heritage alive. The Providence Journal

- ➤ Rhode Island lawmakers are debating a proposal that will cut state income taxes by 2% each year over five years, starting Jan. 1, 2027. Senate Minority Leader Jessica de la Cruz introduced the bill to boost competitiveness as a counter to Gov. McKee’s push for a new millionaires tax. The Providence Journal
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Rams beat George Mason 53 to 51 on Sunday to win the A-10 crown and end a 30-year NCAA tournament drought, and they will learn their next opponent on Sunday, March 15. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Rhode Island high school wrestlers competed in the New England Championships on March 8 in Providence. The meet featured bouts across weight classes from local high schools *notably including Ponaganset and Scituate* and crowned winners in several categories. The Providence Journal
- ➤ At the New England wrestling championships on March 8, Ponaganset boys team claimed its fourth straight title while four local wrestlers (Sam Floody, Colby Vital, Kaz Morosetti and Allison Patten) won gold medals at Providence Career and Technical Academy. Their achievements mark a high point for local wrestling programs. The Providence Journal
