  • The Providence Journal and Newport Daily News are sharing stories about Anne Hutchinson, Mary Williams, Weetamoo and Phillis Wheatley who helped shape Rhode Island in its early years as the state marks its 250th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence today.  The Providence Journal
  • Eid al-Fitr is expected after the crescent moon is sighted on March 19 or March 20, marking the end of Ramadan. Local Warwick mosques are preparing to hold prayer services and charity collections for the small Muslim community.  The Providence Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pilgrim High student Tre Roberson testified on March 10 at the State House before the House Education Committee after his science project showed soft-shell helmet covers reduce head impact in football. The proposed bill would require players to wear the device but allow an opt-out (by a parent or guardian).  Warwick Post

  • Local fans can choose the Longplex Boys Basketball State Tournament MVP from five nominees by voting multiple times until Saturday (the winner will be announced Monday on The Providence Journal website).  The Providence Journal
