GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new bill introduced by Rep. Josh Giraldo would allow local bars to extend hours during the World Cup from June 11 through July 19, with 24-hour service permitted (except between 5 and 6 a.m.) and towns able to opt out by notifying local police 24 hours ahead. WJAR
- ➤ Gov. Dan McKee proposed doubling state funding for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank from ($1 million to $2 million) in his 2027 budget during a press conference Thursday morning. Food pantries have faced increased need and bills in the House and Senate could raise the allocation to $3 million. WJAR
- ➤ School Committee members met Tuesday in Warwick to review the school deficit plan that aims to reduce a $7.9 million gap, but they argued that $2.1 million from last year was left out of the city’s required support (the plan now awaits Auditor General approval). Warwick Post
