BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stop + Shop in Warwick will close at 5 p.m. on Easter Sunday, Apr. 5 to allow employees extra time with family + stores in nearby areas will follow similar hours.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Real Housewives of Rhode Island will premiere on Bravo on April 2 — showcasing the local accent with dropped R’s and unique vowel sounds. Linguists compare these traits to New York and Boston accents, adding local flavor to our TV culture.  The Providence Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rhode Island's K-12 council voted Tuesday night — after extra snow days — to shorten the school year, meaning students now have fewer instructional days than normal.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Parks and Recreation Director Steve Piscopiello was recognized last week when his peers awarded him the 2026 John (Jack) Cronin Award for dedicated service.  Cranston Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, April 4 at Thayer Arena, local alumni hockey teams will compete in a charity game sponsored by Bentley Companies that honors Tom Cavanagh (remembered for his struggles with mental health) while donations support his memorial fund and local hockey programs.  Warwick Post
  • High school sports action on Tuesday ended with key wins in baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis and volleyball. Teams from Lincoln, Mt. Hope and other local schools delivered shutout outings — a round-up that highlighted standout pitching and run-scoring plays.  The Providence Journal
