Good morning, Warwick. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 11th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Providence Revolving Fund, Rhode Island’s only homegrown CDFI, has invested over $20 million in affordable housing, home repairs, and economic development across the state — including programs like the Rhode Island Home Repair Program, I-195 Parcel/Providence Trader Joe's Development, and Solara at the Tiverton Armory — by growing its loan pool from $3 million to over $22 million. The organization now faces growing demand with a waitlist for repairs and is working to secure more funds to support low- and moderate-income communities.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Director M. Night Shyamalan and actor Jake Gyllenhaal will film a supernatural romantic thriller based on a narrative by Nicholas Sparks. State officials and Two Beacons Productions have proposed using the Cranston armory in Providence for filming—a decision that will be made at a meeting on April 15.  ABC 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brown University announced that federal visas have been revoked for one currently enrolled student — along with a few recent graduates — with no official reason given. University officials stated that International Student and Scholar Services will check visa statuses several times daily.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island DEM has changed its rules to let anyone salvage roadkill from 14 types of animals — including deer, turkeys, and coyotes — for personal use only, and they must get a Wildlife Roadkill Salvage permit and report details within 24 hours. The new rule will help ease the work of removing carcasses and track wildlife collisions.  The Providence Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thundermist will start a new family medicine residency program in 2026 to train 12 doctors who will care for 3,000 to 4,000 patients as part of efforts to ease a growing primary care shortage in Rhode Island. The program faces funding hurdles—federal money is uncertain and state lawmakers are considering a $500,000 aid bill.  The Providence Journal
  • Young Breasties — led by cancer survivor Amy Benoit — formed a support group in Rhode Island to help young people fighting breast cancer. The group will host the Pink and Powerful fundraiser on May 2 to benefit the Gloria Gemma Foundation and will work year-round to improve testing and patient support.  ABC 6
  • Thundermist is recruiting new pediatric and adult primary care patients at its Warwick, Woonsocket, and Wakefield offices as Anchor Medical Associates closes all facilities by the end of June—its Warwick center stops service at the end of April and nearly 25,000 patients will soon need a new provider.  ABC 6

SPORTS NEWS

  • Earlier this week, Patrick Clemmey made his varsity pitching debut at Pepin Field in an 11-1 win over Coventry, throwing four innings and striking out nine batters. He returned to the rotation after a three-year wait that included Tommy John surgery and a season at first base at Bishop Hendricken (he began to break out as a pitcher last summer) and now looks to build on his strong start.  The Providence Journal
  • At Bryant’s Ocean State Cup on Thursday and today, Junior Haley Oliver from Coventry finished third in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:00.95 and helped the RIC track team finish fifth overall with a score of 115.5. In a twinbill baseball game, RIC lost to Eastern Connecticut with scores of 17 to 1 and 3 to 1 — junior center fielder Lucas McElroy went 3 for 6.  Johnston SunRise
