EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Roger Williams University said that Paige Moreau, an architecture student and school building manager, died from a medical emergency while studying abroad in Italy over the weekend — she would have graduated next year. WJAR
- ➤ United Way of Rhode Island partnered with CCRI to open a 211 office on the Warwick campus to help students with housing, money, food, mental health care and childcare support. The office is open today from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. + on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. WJAR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ RI farmer Pat McNiff said he felt relieved when the USDA withdrew a proposed salmonella regulation that small farms warned would force costly changes and reduce local food options— a decision based on public comment reviews— which removed a burden on small processors. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Warwick’s onramp from Route 113 East to I-95 North will be closed starting May 2 for a bridge replacement as part of the $102 million Warwick Corridor Project. Drivers must detour via I-95 South then Route 117 (if they miss the direct onramp, continue along Route 113 until a left turn onto Route 1 North leads them to I-95) while traffic on the Route 113 bridges shifts mid-May and lanes return to their original configuration by year’s end. - ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families disclosed that an infant died on Friday — the infant’s family was already in the system — and that a 10-year-old nearly died on July 31 with details kept confidential. WJAR

- ➤ The University of Rhode Island women’s basketball team confirmed transfers Valentina Ojeda, Brooklyn Gray and Ta’Viyanna Habib (from VCU, Saint Louis and George Mason) last Friday to boost their lineup, while Bryant filled its backcourt need by signing Abbey Lindsey from UMass Lowell after Breezie Williams left for Wright State.
