  • P.E.O. Chapter A-RI is hosting its Annual Spring Flower Hanging Basket Fundraiser on Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Community Church (805 Main Avenue, Warwick) to support women’s education.  Warwick Post
  • Local 10-year-old Luke Cook installed a Curiosity Cubby near 84 Kenneth Ave so neighbors can share and swap trinkets, and his idea has already drawn support from the community while earning him a certificate of special Congressional recognition.  WJAR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday, a dust devil formed on a softball field at Winslow Park in Warwick during a youth soccer game. Meteorologist AJ Mastrangelo (Storm Team 10) said fast solar heating and dry soil created the event, with bystanders reporting debris and minor car damage.  WJAR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rogers (the Vikings) beat Middletown (the Islanders) 17-3 in a softball game on April 28, with strong plays from Charlotte Plowden and Alexandra Brown helping secure the win.  The Providence Journal
  • The URI men's basketball team picked up transfer wing Jason Fontenet II from UCSB Tuesday afternoon; he averaged 9.9 points (6 rebounds) in 34 starts last season and may retain two years of eligibility as the team fills scholarship spots for next season.  The Providence Journal
