COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Longtime member Sean Wiggins received the Lifetime Member Award on Monday evening at the pit for 17 years of service in the league—he coached, led teams, and stayed active on the board and Warwick School Committee. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Warwick police said a woman pedestrian was struck at an intersection on Thursday when she attempted to cross northbound at Warwick Avenue — Fowler Avenue and sustained non-life-threatening injuries while the investigation continues.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island rideshare drivers rallied at the State House on May 1st for union rights and fair pay—urging lawmakers to adopt better workplace policies with improved wages and benefits.  WJAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rhode Island hospitals have jumped to the nation’s second-safest ranking as more than half earned an A in Leapfrog’s spring survey—Kent Hospital in Warwick and a few others received lower grades. Brown University Health hospitals showed strong, consistent performance while struggling institutions continue efforts to improve patient safety.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday, the Pilgrim softball team won 18—0 in three innings against Bay View as Genna D’Amato hit four RBI and pitchers split five strikeouts. Tuesday's sports saw Toll Gate shut out Scituate, Prout win 6—1 over Toll Gate in baseball, and the Warwick boys tennis co-op sweep North Providence.  Warwick Online
  • The Pilgrim baseball team is trying to find its rhythm in the second half of the season after a slow start with a 4-7 record. Manager Bryan Morry said strong pitching from Nolan Canestrari and Derrick Butler and steady hitting from Henry Kearns, Samuel Shelton and new transfer Matt Wellington (with a .500 average in his first four games) will help the team aim for a Division I postseason berth.  Warwick Online
