- ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced that Scarborough North and Salty Brine state beaches will open this weekend on Saturdays and Sundays through Memorial Day—lifeguards are on duty and amenities are available, while Roger Wheeler Beach will open on June 14 after construction ends. - ➤ Today, Seven Stars began its soft opening at its new Edgewood spot at the intersection of Broad Street and Warwick and Norwood Avenues with a grand opening planned for May 14. The 2,500-square-foot store will serve fresh bread and employ 15 to 20 workers—continuing a legacy from founders who once called the area home. Cranston Herald

- ➤ Beginning today, driver's licenses in Massachusetts and Rhode Island without the yellow star will not meet federal standards for domestic flights, TSA said — travelers without REAL ID may face extra steps at security. People can upgrade IDs at the DMV or RMV or use other accepted forms like passports. WJAR
- ➤ On Tuesday night, May 5, local boating and fishing groups protested House Bill H-6256 that would remove tax breaks on motorboats and hurt small businesses and a recreational fishery supporting a $419-million economy. Cape Cod Bay now requires small vessels to travel at 10 knots or less until May 15—aiming to protect right whales—while new fishing rules for bluefin tuna, cod and haddock took effect on May 1 as local anglers reported good catches.
