COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Youth in Action helps teens become leaders by offering programs that create a safe space+mentoring opportunity, while Executive Director Stephanie Nunes said the nonprofit faces funding challenges and seeks donations+volunteers to support youth-led projects.  The Providence Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Texas man died on I-95 in Warwick on Tuesday night, May 6, after he exited a moving car and was struck by several vehicles near Route 37 at about 9:36 p.m.  The Providence Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rhode Island public schools will end in mid-June with each district setting its own schedule to make up snow days; Warwick Public Schools plan to finish on June 18 with make-up days from June 20 to 24—other districts end between June 12 and June 23.  The Providence Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The 2025 KIDS COUNT Factbook warned that potential federal funding cuts may hurt key family support programs—such as SNAP and Head Start—that serve over 5,000 local children. Lawmakers and community leaders met on Monday in Warwick to express worries that reduced support could impact affordable housing, education and healthcare for Rhode Island families.  Warwick Online
  • Rhode Island residents with driver’s licenses must look for a gold circle with a white star on top—this symbol shows the ID meets REAL ID standards required for boarding domestic flights since May 7. Those without the proper marking must schedule an in-person appointment at DMV or AAA and bring all required documents.  The Providence Journal
  • The Social Security Administration has set payment dates for May with retirement benefits on May 2, May 14, May 21, and May 28 and Supplemental Security Income recipients receiving two checks—one on May 1 for May and another on May 30 for June. Warwick residents needing help can visit the local Social Security office at 30 Quaker Ln.  The Providence Journal
