BUSINESS NEWS

  • Yawgoo Valley Water Park permanently closes as the owners reallocate resources to other property areas — however, the rest of the property's activities will continue operating.  WJAR
  • Apple agreed to a $250 million settlement last week over claims it misled consumers about AI on new iPhones, possibly paying iPhone owners with eligible purchases from June 10, 2024 to March 29, 2025. A June court hearing will decide if payouts of $25 to $95 per device are issued.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Trinity Rep announced its 2026-27 season of five shows, including the 50th A Christmas Carol at Dowling Theater (a longtime favorite) from Nov. 5 to Dec. 31 as Meredith McDonough replaces Curt Columbus, and the season opens with The Getaway Driver on Sept. 3.  The Providence Journal
  • Trinity Rep announced its 2026-27 season with five shows at the Dowling Theater, starting Sept. 3 with 'The Getaway Driver.' The season features A Christmas Carol for its 50th anniversary and marks a leadership shift (Curt Columbus exiting and Meredith McDonough taking over).  WJAR
  • Hocus Pocus 3 is in development at Disney with returning stars including Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. Although a previous film was shot in Rhode Island, no local filming plans have been confirmed — the project remains in early stages.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 6, the Warwick School Committee unanimously approved a $203.8 million FY27 schools budget that increases funding by 2.68 percent over FY26—supporting classroom instruction amid rising salary, health care, and tuition costs and declining student enrollment. The budget was developed under a five-year deficit reduction plan.  Warwick Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Rhode Island Department of Health issued a statewide alert on Wednesday, May 6 after 61 non-fatal overdoses were reported over the past week. Residents are urged to use local overdose prevention, treatment, and recovery resources.  The Providence Journal

  • A recent article outlines eight top burger spots statewide, featuring local favorites like The Shanty in Warwick & Stanley’s Famous Hamburgers, which has been delighting diners since 1932.   • La Salle volleyball remained unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Hendricken in Warwick on May 7; the victory keeps the Rams atop the RPI standings as the Hawks regroup before playoffs.  The Providence Journal
  • Moses Brown’s girls lacrosse team secured a 10-3 win against La Salle on May 7, boosting its playoff seeding in the RIIL tournament. La Salle also gained confidence by testing its strategy against a top opponent.  The Providence Journal
