  • Lowe's offers a free MyLowe's Rewards membership that gives shoppers points on eligible purchases and exclusive deals (including free shipping and member gifts). Today, the first 150 members at local Lowe's stores will receive free gifts (such as sunglasses and pencils) and can spin a prize wheel during the ongoing Rewards Week sale.  The Providence Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island lawmakers proposed a bill that would redirect 50% of cannabis excise tax revenue to fund health—housing and education improvements in communities affected by the War on Drugs. Lawmakers and advocates said the equity fund could reach $135 million by 2034, while critics questioned whether the Cannabis Control Commission is the right agency to manage such a program.  The Providence Journal
  • Protesters gathered outside an Advance America storefront in Warwick on May 9 to protest payday lenders charging up to 260% interest on short-term loans and urged lawmakers to close a loophole that lets companies target cash-strapped residents (loans are capped at $500). Lawmakers in the House and Senate are expected to address the issue as past proposals have drawn strong support.  WJAR
  • State airport officials on Friday withdrew their petition to join the TSA Screening Partnership Program at T.F. Green International Airport after improved wait times eased earlier concerns, with maximum delays dropping to 27 minutes—officials said they will keep monitoring passenger flow closely.  Johnston SunRise
  • The Tax Collector of Warwick announced that the city will auction estates with unpaid taxes at Warwick City Hall on May 30 at 10:00 a.m.—bidders must pay with cash or a certified check, and property owners will have one year to redeem their estates by paying the taxes, assessments, a 10% penalty and 1% interest per month starting from the seventh month.  Warwick Online
