CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Warwick police arrested Matthew Beausoleil at a gas station on Post Road Saturday morning after officers responded to a domestic call from West Warwick and found a firearm in his vehicle; he faces charges (possession of an unlicensed pistol and a large capacity magazine) and may face further charges in West Warwick with a bail commissioner set for Saturday morning. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Heavy rain on Friday canceled many games but Saturday, Rhode Island high school sports went ahead — Narragansett softball rallied for a 13-3 win with a walk-off hit and West Warwick baseball overturned an early deficit to win 10-4 — with teams showing strong pitching and hitting. - ➤ NJIT beat Bryant on Saturday at Conaty Park when an RBI triple in the eighth gave them a 7—6 win and snapped Bryant’s 10-game winning streak. The loss put Bryant at 28—17—1 overall and 14—6 in America East play, and the teams will face off in a rubber match on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ABC 6
- ➤ On May 10, RIFC coach Khano Smith said his team fell behind early, then tied the game 1-1 but could not score a deciding goal against Monterey Bay FC—leaving the match unresolved. The Providence Journal
- ➤ On May 4, the Providence Bruins lost two to zero to the Charlotte Checkers and now face elimination in the Calder Cup playoff series while Rhode Island FC opened its new Centreville Bank Stadium on May 3 with big plays by Koke Vegas and Maxi Rodriguez. Former Bryant star Mickey Gasper debuted with the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park, Ponaganset High School won a tense extra innings game, and the Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas hurt his knee on May 2 and may miss many games.
