- ➤ Mayor Frank Picozzi announced a $2.1M budget adjustment that increased school funding to $143,594,746 after tensions rose during a protest by 300 teachers outside City Hall. The extra funds, which do not use city reserves, are expected to help schools nearly balance their budgets as the council reviews the FY26 budget tonight — officials said the move averted a major crisis. - ➤ Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said Barletta Heavy Division paid $11 million to settle an environmental lawsuit over dumping contaminated fill during a 2020 construction project—settlement funds will pay for dental care services for Providence youth. ABC 6
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Health said Bedner Growers Inc. recalled cucumbers sold between April 29 and May 14 because of a multi-state salmonella outbreak—no related cases have been reported in Rhode Island. RIDOH urged those who cannot verify the cucumbers come from Bedner Growers to throw them away and contact a healthcare provider if symptoms arise. ABC 6
