CRIME NEWS

  • One year ago a car crashed into Rhode Island Guns and Ammo on Post Road in Warwick just before 4 a.m. — breaking in and stealing 30 handguns, with no arrests made as police work with the ATF to develop leads.  WJAR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Teachers at Nicholas A. Ferri Middle School held a secret spirit week last week by dressing in unusual outfits like blazers, suit jackets and sunglasses—a nod to a TikTok trend—to surprise students. The event built school spirit and brought staff closer together.  Johnston SunRise

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A proposed $2 tax on event tickets for venues with over 800 seats has sparked debate—Rep. Rebecca Kislak says the fee will help fund local cities while venue managers warn it could reduce touring events.  WJAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at St. Rocco School made geography fun by choosing states to study and creating storyboards, maps, props, and costumes. The fourth graders in Lisa Ciuncci's class displayed their projects in the school cafeteria last week—answering questions about their work.  Johnston SunRise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • RIDOT postponed work on extra lanes at the Providence viaduct on Interstate 95 North because of bad weather and will finish the project on June 6—offering drivers a smoother merge onto the service road.  ABC 6
  • On May 29, the Department of Homeland Security named Rhode Island a sanctuary jurisdiction on its new federal list. Gov. McKee said the state follows the Morales court decision—cooperating with ICE only when a warrant is issued.  ABC 6
