A 45-year-old RIDOT engineer tech II from Johnston was arrested Tuesday for allegedly using a prisoner's identity to secure a $51,000 car loan to buy a Mercedes-Benz and commit further fraud — video surveillance showed he drove a RIDOT-marked vehicle to a Coventry credit union and was released on personal recognance after arraignment in Warwick District Court — as state police continue their investigation.

Governor Dan McKee announced on Friday at 10:00 a.m. which company would rebuild the westbound side of Washington Bridge after it closed on December 11 for safety concerns — the decision came after Walsh Construction Company and American Bridge submitted detailed proposals.

Officials said no reopening date or cost has been set yet — further plans will be shared as the project moves forward.
