CRIME NEWS

  • A Burrillville man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon after he picked up an elderly woman in Coventry last year, stole her money and jewelry from Wendy's, strangled her, and left her for dead in a wooded area of Smithfield (53-year-old Steven Henning) and he will be sentenced in September (punctuation scheduled then).  WJAR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Todd Rundgren will perform on June 21 at The Park Theatre in Cranston at 8 p.m., playing old hits and new music during his 'Still Me / Still We' tour. He will also talk about a new fan music service—mixing his old songs with a new plan—on the show.  Cranston Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NOAA announced new bluefin tuna rules taking effect July 1 that let private vessels with an HMS Angling permit keep one fish between 27 inches and less than 73 inches and allow charter operators to retain two fish, while most bluefin in the area have been over 47 inches. Fishery managers support the rule change as it better fits local catches+and they plan to use the new measures to enhance stock assessments and climate research.  Cranston Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Hopkins said today the city will continue to remove graffiti quickly and will impose strict fines—up to $500 for property owners and $200 for defacing property—to keep the area safe and clean.  Cranston Herald
