Good morning, Warwick. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 19th of June.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On June 11, Toll Gate High School marked the end of a 13-year journey for its 2025 graduates as 244 students celebrated at the URI Ryan Center — Principal Candace Caluori and Mayor Frank Picozzi praised the graduates for their hard work and encouraged them to keep growing, with special notes on the inspiring twin speakers.  Warwick Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After David Casey died of cardiac arrest while playing golf at Cranston Country Club in February, lawmakers signed the David Casey Act which now requires every golf course to have an AED available. Betsy Casey—his widow—pushed for the measure so that courses without AEDs must purchase them.  Warwick Online
  • The Senate Finance Committee approved a $14.34 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year on Wednesday — funding investments in health care, child care, and education while adding a 2-cent gas tax and a property tax on non-owner-occupied homes valued above $1 million. The full Senate will vote on the bill Friday.  WJAR
  • Warwick property tax bills will begin arriving next week after a revaluation showed a sharp rise in many home values, and some owners—especially those on leased land and near waterfronts—expect their individual bills to increase significantly (with city revenue set to increase by about 3.66% to $244 million in FY26).  Warwick Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thrive Behavioral Health in Warwick works with Tides Family Services to offer Mobile Response and Stabilization Services that help children in mental health crisis; the program saved over $2.2 million but now faces a monthly shortfall of more than $15,000 because private insurance does not cover these services. Local legislators are considering House Bill 6118 and House Bill 5527 (which would require all insurers to cover MRSS) to secure care for families in Cranston, Johnston, and Warwick.  Warwick Online
