CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Troopers in Warwick arrested six people between May 28 and June 8 on charges of reckless driving, DUI, and shoplifting—stops occurred on Route 37, Rte. 95, and East Avenue as well as in Providence with suspects processed at local facilities. Warwick Post
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Parents in Warwick are worried that split classes for first and second grades next fall—combining different age groups—could mean less focused instruction. School leaders say they are watching enrollment numbers and will update the community at the July school committee meeting. WJAR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dozens of bills passed in the General Assembly have moved to Governor McKee’s desk—measures include a revised ban on assault-style guns, a plan to boost funds for transit and primary care with a 2-cent gas tax hike, a law to allow kratom sales, and a law protecting reading materials for teachers and librarians as part of a $14.34 billion 2026 budget. These bills, aimed at addressing guns, drugs, and book bans, are now set for the governor’s review. WJAR
- ➤ The General Assembly passed a bill that will install video cameras on school buses to record violations when vehicles run red lights— the measure now heads to the governor’s desk. ABC 6
- ➤ A bill that would ban smoking in casinos now heads to Governor Dan McKee's desk after Twin River workers rallied over health concerns at Bally's Casinos—the legislation allows smoking lounges and will take effect in 2027 if signed into law. ABC 6
