- ➤ Warwick firefighters and Animal Control rescued a duck caught in a chain-link fence on Wednesday—firefighters freed the bird after it got tangled. Earlier this month, they had rescued ducklings trapped in a storm drain. ABC 6
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Peter Neronha’s office launched an informational website today to help Medicare Advantage patients learn about coverage changes amid contract talks between Brown University Health and UnitedHealthcare — the site offers FAQs — as patients may lose in-network coverage if the two groups do not reach an agreement by June 30. - ➤ Warwick’s state reps Marie Hopkins, Joseph Solomon Jr, Evan Shanley, and Joseph McNamara signed on to a $4,000 grant to help fund new projects for Conimicut Village—the funds will support beautification efforts like hanging plants and a returning farmers market held on the first Saturday in June. - ➤ On Friday night, the General Assembly finished its session by passing the David Casey Act that will require golf courses to have automated external defibrillators to help in emergencies—Johnston lawmakers and a widow pushed for the law after a fatal cardiac event on a course. The new law is expected to make golf courses safer for everyone. Warwick Online
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Butler Hospital worker Dan Camp joined over 800 union members in a picket outside Kent Hospital on June 18 to protest stalled contract talks and demand better wages and benefits. Negotiations did not end after talks on June 17 and 19 and union members say the proposed four-year contract does not meet rising living costs. Warwick Online
