- ➤ Journalists report that a romantic thriller (Remain) starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by M. Night Shyamalan recently filmed scenes in Chepachet, Warren, Newport, and Little Compton while officials in Pawtucket will unveil time capsule contents from McCoy Stadium tomorrow and Southern New England singles are meeting face-to-face; a military couple cancelled their August wedding plans after a double-booking at the Newport Officers’ Club and a Coventry man teaches fishing every Sunday (from the second week of April through October) near Tiogue Lake. - ➤ The two Olneyville New York System restaurants in Providence and Cranston formally changed ownership on Saturday when Heritage Restaurant Group completed the sale (the group has acquired several local establishments recently) and plans to continue serving its popular hot wieners and coffee milk (a longtime local favorite). ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Cities in Southern New England have seen higher fireworks bills from tariffs — New Bedford paid an extra $300 and Newport an extra $480 — while Warwick’s fireworks cost rose slightly in 2025 but not because of tariffs due to a multi-year contract with its provider. WJAR
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, June 28, 36 tree climbers competed at Buttonwood Park in Warwick for the New England Tree Climbing Championships organized by the International Society of Arboriculture. They were judged on climb height, speed, and emergency rescue skills, and the winner will represent New England in a competition in New Zealand — a prize for top performance. WJAR
