- ➤ Off-duty Warwick Police Captain Charles Boisseau rescued a Cranston family from a house fire on July 5 when he saw flames near a trash can on Whispering Pines Drive, called 911 twice, and entered the burning home—ensuring the homeowner’s wife and three children safely evacuated without injury. - ➤ An off-duty Warwick police captain saved a Cranston family from a house fire late Saturday night by alerting the residents and helping them escape—officials said the blaze, likely caused by improperly discarded fireworks, ignited nearby materials—police confirmed no one was injured. WJAR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After a storm on July 3 left over 65,000 customers without power, Rhode Island Energy had problems with its online tracker and text system as crews restored power over the weekend. Gov. McKee praised the crews and connected the company’s president with local mayors—he said the company must fix these glitches to better serve our community. ABC 6
- ➤ Lawyers for Rhode Island denied counterclaims from contractor companies Barletta + Aetna that said the state hid a 1992 engineering report and failed to test the Washington Bridge before its December 2023 closure and partial demolition in 2024. The state had sued 13 companies over its work on the bridge as it sought to recoup funds and assign blame for the failure. WJAR
