- ➤ Officers from several departments gathered in Cranston on July 12 to raise awareness about child abuse at the Little Heroes Obstacle event organized by Sandra Pena—Giovanni's mother—in honor of Giovanni Pena Romero, a baby who died from abusive head trauma in 2016. WJAR

- ➤ 21-year-old Eric Tarpinian-Jachym—remembered in Westerly as a kind and ambitious young man—was fatally shot in Washington DC on June 30th while he was interning in Representative Ron Estes’ office; his family has set up an educational scholarship in his honor and a $40,000 reward is offered for tips as no suspect has been named.
