CRIME NEWS

  • Warwick police are asking the public to help identify a man who was accused of trying to break into a business and vandalizing a building on Jefferson Boulevard on May 26—he was seen wearing gray shorts, a black hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap with a distinct tattoo on his right leg and calf.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new state law requires all college dorms to keep NARCAN and train staff in its use starting Sept. 1. Gov. Dan McKee signed the law on June 26, and it aims to curb opioid overdoses—although campus-specific data on overdoses were not provided.  The Providence Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Over the past two years, Emily Bernstein’s health consulting firm (Wheelhouse Health) helped Rhode Islanders save over $1 million by appealing their medical bills.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Providence Journal announced the 2025 All-State Golf teams on June 18 at the Providence Performing Arts Center, naming top players like sophomore Rocco Capalbo of Prout and senior Garrett Carney of East Greenwich. The first team includes standout Drew MacLeod of La Salle, who was named Boys Golf Athlete of the Year — a role that sets the stage for these golfers next season.  The Providence Journal
  • Caleb Leys, a left-handed pitcher from the University of Maine, was drafted by the Tigers in the fourth round of the 2025 MLB Draft—he helped lead Middletown High School to the 2021 Division II championship.  ABC 6
  • Anthony DePino, a URI third baseman who broke team records for home runs, RBI and runs scored—making him one of the program's top hitters—was selected by the White Sox in the seventh round of the MLB Draft.  ABC 6
