- ➤ Ocean State Job Lot will use seven trucks on Monday to transport Plumpy’Nut (a nutritional supplement made by Edesia Nutrition) from a North Kingstown warehouse to Port Newark, where it will be shipped to World Vision to help starving children after USAID funding cuts halted shipments. WJAR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln Technical Institute is enrolling students in three trade programs—HVAC, electrical, and welding—to help build Rhode Island’s skilled trades workforce as job growth is expected over the next several years. The new welding program starts classes this August with about a year of instruction and tuition around $30,000. WJAR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rhode Island DEM closed 700 acres of shellfishing areas off Prudence Island from today until sunrise Aug. 2 to protect public health from sewage risks during an expected large boat gathering. Boaters in Potters Cove are urged to use pump out facilities & follow no discharge guidelines. The Providence Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Major road construction is compounding traffic issues this summer as crews work on the I-95 viaduct in Providence, Route 10 in Cranston, and Route 37 improvements near Warwick. Some lanes and ramps are closed from July 25 to July 28—and projects are scheduled to finish from 2024 to 2031 to improve safety and ease congestion. The Providence Journal

- ➤ A Health and Wellness event will be held at West Warwick Civic Center on September 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The expo offers free workshops on nutrition, fitness, and mental health & interactive booths for health screenings and expert advice. Warwick Post
