- ➤ Warwick Police Department partners with local groups to host National Night Out at Rocky Point Park on Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 3–9 p.m.—offering free parking and admission along with activities such as a police K9 demonstration, bounce houses, food trucks, and a fireworks show at 8:30 p.m. Warwick Online
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pilgrim High School construction is on hold because high arsenic levels at the old cinder track site require soil removal and unexpected wetlands have forced changes to the site layout—city officials plan a DEM meeting on Aug. 8 to address these issues. The delays could affect costs and the project timeline, with a maximum guaranteed price expected by September. Warwick Online
- ➤ Community College of Rhode Island received a $1-million Gable Grant from the Lowe’s Foundation last week to expand its Electrical Apprenticeship and Ready to Build programs at the Warwick campus & boost local skilled trades training. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority announced plans to cut 17 of its 67 bus routes to address a $17.6-million deficit for fiscal year 2026, with its board voting on Aug. 7 and changes set to take effect on Sept. 13 if approved—public comments are accepted until Aug. 6. Johnston SunRise
- ➤ RIPTA will hold public meetings at South Kingstown Town Hall, West Warwick Public Library and Kingston Free Library through August 6—if approved, service cuts will begin in September. WJAR
- ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will shift lanes to the left at the merge of Interstate 95 North and Route 4 North in Warwick on August 1 for road work. All travel lanes will remain open but will be narrowed and lane closures are expected Sundays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the changes will continue through mid-October. ABC 6
