CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Warwick Center for the Arts will host Adventures in Acrylic on August 14 from 6:30 PM–8:30 PM as a monthly series to help local artists learn new painting techniques. Attendees will explore methods such as using stencils, layering, and incorporating photo images to build their artistic tool box. Warwick Online
- ➤ Artist Veronica Janssen will teach a monoprinting workshop at Warwick Center for the Arts from Friday, September 5 through Friday, December 5 at 2:00 PM — 4:30 PM using a gel plate and a variety of papers, paint and mark making tools to create unique prints. Participants will use these prints for collages, cards, small books and gift wrap with no prior experience needed. Johnston SunRise
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority released its Operational Efficiency Study on Friday as required by the FY2025 state budget mandated by Gov. Dan McKee. The study found that an operating deficit for FY2026 led the agency to propose $18 million in service cuts — and it is holding public hearings for local input. WJAR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On July 1, about 20,000 UHC Medicare Advantage members lost coverage at Brown Health hospitals after the contract was not renewed. CMS has opened a 60-day special election period—affected members will be notified by UHC to choose a new plan. The Providence Journal

- ➤ Lily Dessel repeated as the RI Junior Amateur champion on Aug. 1 at Pawtucket Country Club after she beat Hanley Correia by a 6 and 4 margin. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Bryant’s new men’s basketball coach, Jamion Christian, will debut against Siena on Nov. 3rd as part of a nonconference schedule that includes challenging road games at Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Connecticut plus local rival matchups against Stonehill on Dec. 2nd and Brown on Dec. 5th.
