- ➤ Michael Alan McGarry, 80, retired Battalion Chief of the Warwick Fire Department, passed away peacefully on August 6—funeral services will be held on August 14 at 9:45 a.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home in West Warwick with visitation on August 13 from 4:00—7:00 p.m. Warwick Online
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Visitors at the Rhode Island Computer Museum in Warwick can play Space War! on a Digital PDP 12 from 1972 and see how technology evolved from punch cards to today’s phones—docent Michael Thompson said the museum also runs summer camps where kids learn to make wind turbines, 3D models, and circuits. The museum will host its annual Warehouse Tour and Flea Market in North Kingstown this Sunday to help raise funds for operations and support its Hollywood tech rentals. ABC 6
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Dan McKee has tapped Stefan Pryor, who served as Commerce chief from 2015 until he left in 2022 and later worked as Secretary of Housing, to return as Secretary of Commerce — his nomination awaits Senate confirmation. Gov. McKee said interim head Jim Bennett will resume his role as president and CEO of the Commerce Corporation. ABC 6
