- ➤ HBO confirmed a fourth season of The Gilded Age that draws inspiration from Newport socialite Alva Vanderbilt’s history of divorce and social change. Steven Feinberg from the Rhode Island Film & Television Office said the new season could be filmed in Rhode Island—if local historic cottages remain preserved. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Rhode Island once had up to 24 roller coasters built mainly in the early decades that were lost in storms and fires. Rocky Point Amusement Park closed in 1995; rides such as Corkscrew (now at Wild Waves in Federal Way) and Cyclone (moved to Sandspit Cavendish Beach) remind locals of a vibrant past. - ➤ Rhode Island mostly follows federal overtime rules but adds key differences—firefighters earn overtime only after 42 hours and retail workers do not count Sunday or holiday work—and the new Big Beautiful Bill will soon let overtime workers deduct part of their wages from taxes. - ➤ Rhode Island FC tied 0-0 with Loudoun on Aug. 9 after missing clear scoring chances despite a strong first half — coach Khano Smith said the team must work to create better opportunities — and the club will prepare for its home game on Aug. 20. The Providence Journal
