- ➤ Maeve, an Australian shepherd, went missing on July 17 near Carbuncle Pond in Coventry and was found early on July 26 after local volunteers from Missing Dogs Massachusetts used trail cameras—along with other tools—to guide her family to a safe reunion. The organization expanded its services into Rhode Island after receiving many requests from pet owners and now assists with hundreds of reunions each year. The Providence Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today and tomorrow the Perseid meteor shower peaks with stargazers expecting to see 50-75 meteors per hour; experts advise watching after midnight at dark sites but bright full moonlight may lower visibility. The Providence Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rhode Island law allows homeowners to trim tree branches that overhang into their yards as long as they do not harm the tree—this rule was upheld in 1975 in Rosa vs. Oliveira. The law does not clearly permit picking fruit or removing other parts of the tree, leaving such actions as a gray area. The Providence Journal
