- ➤ Today in Warwick, Bierman Autism Centers is hosting a free sensory-friendly touch a truck event for children with autism aged two to nine—letting them explore fire trucks, police cruisers and other vehicles without loud sounds. - ➤ Rhode Island newlyweds Megan and Matt Turner will compete on season 38 of The Amazing Race starting Sept. 25—racing across Europe for a $1 million prize; Matt, a former Big Brother star, joined the show with his wife after their recent wedding. The Providence Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rhode Island State Police packed over 2,000 backpacks with school supplies at their headquarters—part of the 'Cops, Kids, and Classrooms' campaign to help students start the year well. The backpacks will be given out Thursday as collections continue until August 21 with support from local partners like Bay Coast Banks. WJAR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said lane shifts will take place Friday night in East Greenwich and Warwick. The agency said lanes on Frenchtown Road will be reduced from two to one until January 2026 and lanes on I-95 north will be narrowed through the fall—affecting all ramps. ABC 6
- ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended closing beaches at Easton’s Beach in Newport and Conimicut Beach in Warwick because of high bacteria counts. RIDOH said it will monitor water conditions through Labor Day — residents can call 401-222-2751 for updates. ABC 6

- ➤ Rhode Island health officials recommended closing the swimming areas at Conimicut Beach in Warwick and Easton's Beach in Newport on Friday after detecting high bacteria counts. The department said it will review water quality through Labor Day. WJAR
- ➤ Families can get help during back-to-school time from behavioral health support in Warwick; Parent Support Network on Centerville Road offers free support groups and crisis assistance to over 200 families—Brenda Alejo and Ellie Robinson urge parents to call 988 or visit kids.ri.gov if children show changes in behavior—ensuring timely help for those in need.
