CULTURE NEWS

  • Rhode Island Comic Con will be held Nov. 7-9 at the Rhode Island Convention Center and Amica Mutual Pavilion — the event is set to feature special guests including Henry Winkler, Chevy Chase, and Geena Davis. Organizers plan several crossover photo ops and will announce more panels soon — fans should watch for further details.  WJAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Warwick School Committee met at Warwick Veterans Middle School and approved a revised construction cost of $153 million for Pilgrim High — an increase of about $8 million from the earlier estimate that led to delays shifting its move-in from August to November while Toll Gate High is now scheduled for December. Committee members said the changes were due to unforeseen environmental remediation needs and additional requirements for athletic fields and equipment.  Warwick Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management held a Come Clam With Me class at Rocky Point State Park in Warwick where 60 residents learned to catch clams—finishing the lesson with a clambake. RIDEM will offer additional classes on Aug.25 at Gull Cove and on Sept.9 in North Kingstown—giving more locals a chance to learn clam harvesting.  WJAR

FINANCE NEWS

  • Lottery officials announced that the Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $643 million for today's drawing—tickets cost $2 and the cash option is about $290.6 million. This drawing is the 35th since the last jackpot win at the end of May.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rhode Island Airport Corporation board approved a $64,614,214 contract to upgrade T.F. Green International Airport terminals—plans include new flooring, walls, seating, and increased gate capacity to be finished by September. They also approved contracts for parking lot repair, taxiway work, and food court design changes to support growing passenger numbers.  Cranston Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Beyond Wrestling will hold its Americanrana ’25 event at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet on August 29 at 8 p.m.—celebrating 12 years with a premier title match between former tag team partners Bobby Orlando and Bryce Donovan. The event is part of their Monday Wrestling Open RI series that brings a close-up, action-packed wrestling experience to fans.  Cranston Herald
