CULTURE NEWS

  • Trinity Rep artistic director Curt Columbus said he is stepping down at the start of the 2026–27 season after a 20–year tenure. He added that his succession plan from 2015 will help renew the theater.  WJAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Back to school season finds many students in Warwick struggling with homework, so free online programs and budget-friendly tutoring are stepping in to help boost test scores. Options include online tutors and peer-to-peer platforms like Schoolhouse.world — which offer a lower cost alternative to expensive one-on-one sessions that typically charge $40 to $80 per hour.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island State Police said that data from the weight monitoring system on Washington Bridge did not reflect true overweight truck violations — troopers noted many flagged vehicles did not exceed the limit. They spent 580 hours checking trucks since January and issued 49 citations while over 15,000 heavy trucks crossed the bridge.  WJAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Retired Judge Frank Caprio, 88, known from 'Caught in Providence,' is back in the hospital with a setback from pancreatic cancer—he asked for prayers as he continues his fight.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rhode Island Senior Softball League wrapped its regular season with 350 players in its 43rd season and will start postseason play in the next few weeks. Local Little League teams posted strong results this summer, with Warwick teams winning district titles and building bright prospects for future seasons—highlighting a strong sports tradition in our area.  Cranston Herald
  • Beyond Wrestling will hold Americanrana '25 at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet on August 29 at 8 p.m.—an event celebrating 12 years of the promotion and featuring a title match between Bobby Orlando and Bryce Donovan.
