CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Filming for J.J. Abrams’ Ghostwriter in Providence ended on Aug. 24 after a 21-hour shoot on the Point Street Bridge—actor Glen Powell was the only local star and the production also filmed overseas. Local residents saw the bridge closed and noted the unusual activity during the week-long shoot meant to set the film in our state. The Providence Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Orsted said the Revolution Wind project—80% complete with 45 turbines in place 15 miles off the Rhode Island coast—was halted by a federal review over national security concerns. When finished, the wind farm will power 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut. ABC 6
- ➤ Late August shows Rhode Island beach waters in the high 60s to low 70s—a warming jump from the low 60s recorded in June. Experts say the ocean heats slowly after the air warms, so swimmers can expect the sea to peak later in the summer. The Providence Journal

- ➤ Staff at the Department of Children, Youth and Families returned to the Friendship Street facility on Monday after bat sightings led them to work from home; the agency arranged for pest control to clean the building — officials say the area is now safe. WJAR

- ➤ Butler Hospital SEIU 1199NE union members returned to work Sunday after a new four-year contract was ratified on August 19—this move ended a months-long strike and aims to restore essential services for thousands of patients. ABC 6

- ➤ The Providence Journal sports staff selected the top quarter-century All-State girls soccer players by reviewing archives and highlighting goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards—players who later shined in college and professional leagues.
