EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today is the first day of school in Warwick as school zone speed cameras are active near 11 schools to help keep students safe. Public schools are using bus patrol to watch for buses passing illegally—working with local police. ABC 6
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ T.F. Green International Airport announced it will continue renovating its terminal with a $64 million project that will update walls, ceilings, seating and lighting—officials said there will be no passenger disruptions and the plan may include relocating the iconic sailboat funded by federal grants. - ➤ The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority board will meet today at 1:30 p.m. at their Melrose Street office to review a revised service change plan that does not cut any routes but may reduce Sunday and holiday service—safeguarding programs like RIde Anywhere for riders with disabilities and trips for public school students. If approved, the changes will go into effect Saturday, September 27. ABC 6
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Special Olympics Rhode Island and the Providence Bruins announced a new floorball program that offers athletes a chance to learn a sport similar to hockey played with a round ball and no skates; they launched the partnership at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. The program will include a six‑week skills clinic starting September 4 in Cranston, a preseason game on Oct 3 where two athletes will drop the ceremonial puck, and a tournament at Providence College on Oct 11.
