Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center will host the Walk to End Domestic Violence, where participants will walk around Rocky Point State Park to support the center — past walks have honored loved ones such as Liam Dempsey.
Last Thursday the Gaspee Days Committee launched its 62nd season with its annual Installation of Officers at the Aspray Boathouse.
The ceremony marked the beginning of community events for the season.
🎓 Education
Warwick resident Maureen Maigret (74) was named the 2026 John Nazarian Alumna of the Year by Rhode Island College, honoring her long-standing work in healthy aging and public policy.
The award recognizes her contributions to our community.
Fifty-four high school seniors were named National Merit semifinalists on Sept.
9, including one from Bishop Hendricken High School — they now will compete for scholarships with awards worth up to $24 million next spring.
🌲 Environment
Rhode Island Energy announced (after federal limits on offshore wind projects) plans to buy 150 megawatts from a proposed 800-megawatt onshore wind project in northern Maine to help meet state climate goals; the deal is pending a long-term contract and regulatory approval.
