- ➤ Providence meteorologist Kelly Bates lost her job at ABC6 on September 11 when new owners cut staff—she said several colleagues were affected and she is now looking for work while urging others to consider hiring experienced ABC6 talent. - ➤ The Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown was named a top peaceful fall foliage spot by Yankee Magazine because of its scenic views and diverse wildlife. Covering 325 acres, the site features 7 miles of trails—one of which is ADA-accessible—and charges entry fees from $3 to $7. The Providence Journal
