COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Warwick residents are invited to a workshop at the Warwick Center for the Arts on October 2 to learn how to wrap beach treasures into a garden wind chime using stainless steel wire and driftwood. The event runs from 6 p.m. — 8:30 p.m. and participants should bring their own treasures.  Warwick Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • ABC6 Anchor John DeLuca was inducted into the Rhode Island Radio and Television Hall of Fame last night—marking over 25 years on air in Warwick—when he honored his mentor Ken Bell.  ABC 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge granted a temporary injunction so work could resume on the $5-billion offshore wind farm about 15 miles south of here, and both Rhode Island and Connecticut governors said construction will restart soon after a stop-work order was lifted. A union urged viewers and advertisers to boycott Sinclair’s ABC 6 following layoffs, and Hasbro will move from Pawtucket in 2026 as the city shifts away from its industrial past.  The Providence Journal
  • Rhode Island Energy will submit its $95.8 million proposal to cut energy efficiency program funding by nearly 20 percent to the Public Utilities Commission by Oct. 1—this plan is backed by the McKee administration but opposed by clean energy advocates and lawmakers who warn of long-term cost increases.  The Providence Journal
  • Today, the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association launched the 'Not Now' campaign to curb distracted driving. The campaign runs on TV, radio, and social media — and billboards will remind drivers to avoid phone calls, food, and other distractions.  ABC 6

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Warwick's Luke Gallo made an impressive one-handed catch during Friday night high school football in Rhode Island — Sports Team 10's Nicole Menner highlighted dominating week 3 plays from games in Rhode Island and Massachusetts — showing strong performance on the field.  WJAR
  • High school football in Southern New England featured cross-state games in Week 3—West Warwick beat Lincoln 34 to 0 while Central edged Barrington 37 to 21, St. Raphael won over Cranston West 32 to 27, and East Providence triumphed 48 to 8.  ABC 6
  • Friday high school sports games in Rhode Island saw Moses Brown win 7—0 in field hockey, Wheeler secure a 1—0 win over Lincoln in a tight match, and competitive shutouts in girls soccer and volleyball as coaches were reminded to email game reports by 10 p.m. on weeknights; Saturday’s schedule includes cross country, football, soccer and volleyball games across the region that promise more exciting contests.  The Providence Journal
