COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Farm owner Joe Polseno said that apple picking at Pippin Apple Orchard & Farm will end after this weekend due to a hotter, drier season that shortened the harvest. The family farm at 751 Pippin Orchard Rd remains open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Thanksgiving for homemade pies, apple cider donuts, and other treats.  Johnston SunRise

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Apple Cinemas signed a lease to replace Showcase Cinemas at the 16-screen movie theater in Providence Place pending court approval — receiver Mark Russo said the operator was chosen for its good lease terms after reviewing several candidates from the Warwick Mall. The new lease is set to start November 1 and the mall sale remains unlisted.  The Providence Journal
  • Spirit Halloween has opened three pop-up stores to serve shoppers looking for Halloween costumes this season — in Cranston at 1400 Oaklawn Ave, in North Kingstown at 5945 Post Road, and in Warwick at 1350 Bald Hill Road.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The traveling exhibition 'Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel' opens today at Warwick Mall—showing 34 high-resolution frescoes to scale from the Vatican and running until Jan. 18. Visitors must purchase tickets online for this detailed art display.  WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee announced he is joining the Governor’s Public Health Alliance with Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey + other states to share data and plan for seasonal illness and future health challenges. The alliance is funded by the non-profit Gov-Act and advised by former CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen.  ABC 6
  • Governor McKee and state leaders are hosting acclaimed documentarian Ken Burns today at the State House to discuss his new PBS series on the Revolutionary War during a closed RI Civic Leadership Program event—six parts of the series will air on November 16.  ABC 6
  • Rhode Island labor leaders, led by the AFL–CIO, filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court accusing the EPA of unlawfully ending the Solar for All program—this move risks energy savings for nearly 1 million households and hundreds of thousands of jobs.  Johnston SunRise

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kent Hospital received Geriatric Surgery Verification certification from the American College of Surgeons, becoming the 25th US hospital and the only community hospital in New England to earn the honor. The hospital improved elderly care by standardizing preoperative evaluations using the four Ms—what matters, mobility, medications and mentation—to help reduce hospital stays and complications.  Warwick Online

  • Celeste in Narragansett earned a top spot on Yelp’s Best New Restaurants of 2025 after replacing Trio at 15 Kingstown Road in 2024—its revamped space features 156 indoor and 64 outdoor seats and offers a coastal menu inspired by Italy, France and Spain. Reviewers praise the fresh oysters and signature gourmet pizzas made with locally sourced ingredients.  The Providence Journal
