- ➤ Rhode Island farmer Joe Jutras broke the world record for the largest green squash when his 2,200-pound giant was weighed at the SNGPG Weigh Off at Frerichs Farm in October. The record squash—heavier than four black bears on average—is on view at the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo through Nov. 2. The Providence Journal

- ➤ The parent-teacher guild of St. Peter School in Warwick met Monday night after principal Denise Alcala was placed on administrative leave following a complaint that she posted confidential information online. Six teachers resigned earlier this month and the Rev. Gregory Stowe was brought in to help as the diocese reviewed the situation — further details are pending. WJAR

- ➤ The PBS docuseries Ocean State will air its first episode in December, showing Rhode Island's marine habitats and wildlife - filming is underway and the series will release seasonal installments through 2027. The Providence Journal

- ➤ SNAP will run out of funds in two weeks amid a government shutdown, leaving 144,200 Rhode Islanders who used the program at risk of losing food assistance. The program will face a shortfall since its November benefits are expected to be $8 billion while only $6 billion is in reserve. ABC 6
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sen. Jack Reed and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse said on Monday that upcoming health insurance price hikes will affect Rhode Island residents as Affordable Care Act tax credits expire at year’s end. They warned that some premiums could jump by up to $650 a month—leaving 41,000 residents at risk and forcing 13,000 to drop coverage unless Congress acts urgently. WJAR
