  • Lowe's started its Early Black Friday sale on Oct. 30 and will offer weekly deals on appliances, tools and holiday decor until Nov. 26—shoppers in Warwick can join the free MyLowe's Rewards program for more savings.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Warwick stargazers will be able to view the Leonid meteor shower starting November 3 with a peak on November 17 until it ends December 2—experts expect about 10 to 15 meteors per hour from a dark location and note that no telescope is needed. The display is caused by debris from comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle.  The Providence Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rhode Island’s new 7% parking tax went into effect on Oct. 1 to raise about $3.2M annually while Union Station Brewery and Providence Coal-Fired Pizza expanded under Newport’s Heritage Restaurant Group. Pawtucket restarted plans for redeveloping the former Apex site after Hasbro’s move to Boston—Middletown also welcomed the opening of J.T. Commons, and state data shows a steady job market with ongoing offshore wind discussions.  The Providence Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Teasdale Foods announced a recall of Martin’s, Giant Crunchy Taco Dinner Kit, and Casa Mamita Soft Taco Dinner Kit due to a labeling error—cocoa mix packets were placed instead of taco seasoning, which could harm people with dairy allergies. The affected kits were distributed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and the FDA confirmed no illnesses have been reported.  ABC 6
