COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Coast Properties Group started a furniture bank with JDog Junk Removal to help families furnish homes free of charge and keep furniture out of the landfill. The project, based at 1441 Warwick Ave.—near a RIPTA bus stop—is serving over 400 families and will seek more funding and a box truck to improve deliveries.  Warwick Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition opened at Warwick Mall on Oct. 17 and runs until Jan. 18 — the gallery, set in the former Forever 21 space, displays 34 life-size frescoes with audio guides and photo opportunities. Visitors can explore the exhibit on Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with discounts available for students, seniors and military.  Johnston SunRise
  • The Real Housewives of Rhode Island is set to bring unfiltered drama as filming finished this summer in locations like Warwick and Cranston. Dolores Catania, a star from New Jersey, said the welcoming and very Italian cast has raised local excitement—despite the premiere date not being announced.  The Providence Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Northeast said that Rhode Island’s gas price stayed at $2.92 per gallon Monday while the national average was $3.03 per gallon. Inventories dropped as demand rose and oil prices held in the $60—$64 range.  Johnston SunRise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island’s T.F. Green International Airport will not cut flights today because it was not on an unofficial list of 40 airports compiled by USA Today from reports by ABC News and CBS News (anonymous sources cited). The FAA has not yet issued its official list as air traffic controllers continue to work without pay during the federal shutdown.  The Providence Journal
  • Rhode Island Department of Transportation said it will start three highway projects tonight on I-95 in Providence and Warwick, Route 146 in North Smithfield, and Route 4 in East Greenwich (with lane closures and shifts causing traffic delays). Drivers should plan alternate routes (to avoid slow traffic).  WJAR

  • Community health centers in Rhode Island provide essential care to over 150,000 residents by offering primary, dental, and behavioral services and supporting broader needs like housing and employment—officials stress their vital role amid shifting federal policies.
